New Orleans, Louisiana - The New Mexico Highlands men's cross-country team was recognized in the USTFCCCA South Central Regional Preseason Top 10 heading into the 2026 season. The ranking comes after the Cowboys were selected 12th in the RMAC preseason coaches' poll, providing an early indication that the team could be competitive within the region this fall.
The Cowboys return several key contributors from last year's squad, including All-American Weldon Chebon and All-RMAC performer James Kurui as well as sophomore Xavier Martinez who placed among the top 50 at the 2025 RMAC championship.
In addition to the returnees, the Cowboys welcome a talented freshman class that will add depth to the roster.
The HU squad opens the fall season this Saturday in Las Cruces at the Art Morgan Classic hosted by New Mexico State University
