Cowgirl Volleyball In Pod Play This Week

Las Vegas, New Mexico – Cowgirl Volleyball prepare for pod play with Adams State and Fort Lewis.
 
Pod Play: The Cowgirls will play two RMAC pod play matches—games against conference teams that count toward their overall record but not their conference standings
 
Year Three: This is the third season for the Cowgirls under the direction of head coach Meg Grose as the Cowgirls have made significant strides since she has taken the helm.
 
Last Season: The Cowgirls finished 12-16 last season and 4-10 in conference play while also having a home winning record on the Purple Floor of the Wilson Center.
 
 In her second season leading the program, Grose guided the Cowgirls to a big turnaround in the 2025 campaign, recording the program's most wins since 2013 and securing its first home record above .500 in more than 20 years.

Under her direction, New Mexico Highlands has produced back-to-back all-conference selections.
 
RMAC Poll: The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) released the 2026 Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll. New Mexico Highlands received 52 points, good for a 12th place finish, in the voting by the conference's 15 coaches.

Last Time Out:
The Cowgirls faced off with the Colorado School of Mines in the Wilson Center.

Mines jumped out ahead of the Cowgirls early, finding the spots the Cowgirls were not in making their ability to score easy for Mines in set one.

It also seemed each attack the Cowgirls had the Orediggers were right there waiting and anticipating exactly what the Cowgirls were planning to do.

Despite the strong start from Mines the Cowgirls were not set to backdown.

The Orediggers however used the strong start and lead to capture set one.
 
The Cowgirls jumped out to a lead quickly and forced a Mines timeout however the Orediggers battled back and were able to recapture the lead due to very good offense and the Cowgirls found out they were in for a dog fight.

All a sudden the momentum changed and the energy got higher as the Cowgirls continued to scratch and claw their way into this one as the energy as the Cowgirls were laying everything out on the line diving after everything forcing a timeout.

Tying it up at nineteen, the Cowgirls were right back in the fight as the Wilson Center noise could be read on a seismograph. However, the Orediggers would battle back into the set and capture the set putting the Cowgirls' backs against the wall.
 
Mines at the start of the third set took all the air out of the building going on a scoring run and taking a four-point lead early in the third set Attacking errors began to pile up for the Cowgirls which the Orediggers were able to use to their advantage to build a bit of a lead.

The Cowgirls had no quit as they began to compile a pair of runs together and find their way withing one at 20-19 forcing a Mines timeout.

Out the timeout the Orediggers found their groove and pushed their way ahead and the Cowgirls continued to fight their way back despite the Orediggers going up 24-20 the Cowgirls compiled three points making it 24-23 forcing yet another Mines time out however the victory would go to Mines as they completed the sweep 3-0 over the Cowgirls.


 
Scouting The Opposition
 
Adams State University:
The Grizzlies currently sit at 6-8 overall and 2-2 in RMAC play thus far. Andre Foster is in his first season as the head coach of the Adams State program after coaching at University of New Haven and guiding the Chargers, through their transition to the Division I level, he also has had stops at Xavier University in Cincinnati Ohio. The Cowgirls faced Adams State a week prior to the match this week.
 
Fort Lewis College:
The second match of pod play will be against the 7-5 overall Fort Lewis Skyhawks who also sit at 2-2 overall in conference. Justin Wong is in his second season as the head coach in Durango. His Skyhawks finished 14-12 overall and 8-6 in conference play as well as 2-1 last year against Coach Grose and the Cowgirls.
