Shannon Tillett is entering her eighth year at New Mexico Highlands University and serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations and as NMHU's Senior Woman Administrator. She helps manage game day operations, student workers and special events as well as manages budgets and is a sport supervisor.
Prior to getting into administration, Tillett spent two years as an assistant softball coach and in 2015 the Cowgirls finished the season making the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time in a decade.
Tillett came to New Mexico Highlands from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she played softball for two seasons under head coach Kelly Schoenly. In 2011, she started at first base in 12 games before her season was cut short due to injury. Highlights for the season include two RBIs against Notre Dame (Feb. 18) and a pair of home runs against UCF (Feb. 19).
In her 2010 freshman season, Tillett appeared in 47 games and started 41 at first base. She posted a stellar .992 fielding percentage with only two errors on the season. She garnered Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week honors on April 6 with six hits, three RBIs and a pair of runs in three games.
Despite injuries which kept her from playing for the RedHawks in 2012 and 2013, she helped guide her team to the 2012 MAC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2012. Miami knocked off nationally-ranked Tennessee in the first round.
Tillett, a scholar athlete in 2013, graduated in August 2013 from Miami University (Ohio) with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and health with an emphasis in sport studies. Tillett in May 2015 completed a master’s degree in human performance and sport with an emphasis in sports administration from NMHU.
