The Cowgirl Soccer team took on the Cougars of Colorado Christian University on 9/17 as they began RMAC play at Perkins Stadium. Both teams battled the entire game with most of the scoring coming within the last eight minutes of play. The Cowgirls took the Cougars with a final score of 2-1 but it did not come easy.
The Cougars began the scoring as they scored in the 75th minute of play. The Cowgirls quickly regrouped and answered back with a goal in the 82nd minute of play.
Krista Mashak took the ball down the field off a pass, dribbling past Cougar defenders and shot on the goal to score the first goal for the Cowgirls. That was her second goal for the year.
The score was tied and both teams were fighting for the ball. In the 86th minute,
Julissa Rodriguez fed the ball to
Susannah Hertz. Hertz hit the ball on a header and got the ball to go in right over the goalie's head to put the Cowgirls up 2-1. Hertz has scored two game winning goals for the Cowgirls, both within the past week.
The Cougars could not answer back and the Cowgirls won 2-1. In the battle the Cougars took 11 shots and the Cowgirls had only 9 on the day. The Cougars played a more aggressive game as they had 12 fouls to the Cowgirls' 9.
Amanda Rose Johnson and
Scottie Prince split time in the goal with Prince earning the win. Both keepers had two saves for the Cowgirls with Johnson having the only goal allowed.
The Cowgirls will now take on the Metro State College Roadrunners on 9/19 at Perkins Stadium with kickoff at 1pm. Come show your support for your Cowgirls who are now 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in RMAC play.
