Box Score Las Vegas, N.M. - The NMHU Cowgirl Soccer team lost their final home game of the season in overtime against the Mountain Lions of the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, on 10/21.  UCCS was able to find the sudden victory goal halfway through the first overtime period and grabbed the 1-0 victory.  With their loss to the conference leading Mountain Lions, the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Justin Wagar, fall to 3-7-2 in the RMAC and 5-9-2 in overall play.

The first half of the contest was evenly matched with both teams only separated by one shot.  The Cowgirls showed that they were going to do everything they could to compete with the RMAC leaders.  When the first half ended neither team had scored.

The Cowgirls started the second half on the offensive and continued to put tremendous pressure on the Mountain Lions goal, outshooting UCCS 13-2 in the half.  The Mountain Lions did not get their first shot of the half until the 65th minute.  However, once again neither team was able to score a goal and so the stage was set for overtime.

There was only one shot taken in the overtime period and it was the Mountain Lions' Agnes Arnadottir who made her opportunity count.  She intercepted an errant Cowgirls' pass and counter-attacked.  She got into the right side of the penalty box and made a crafty side step move with the ball to her left, evading a Cowgirl defender.  Then Arnadottir set herself and buried the ball into the back of the net.  The sudden victory goal was Arnadottir's eighth of the season and gave the Mountain Lions the 1-0 victory.

Despite the loss, the Cowgirls played very well against the top team in the RMAC.  They outshot UCCS 18-9 in the match.  The game was very physical with a total of 34 fouls and three yellow cards.

The Cowgirls will continue conference play on Friday, 10/26, when they travel to Denver, Colo. to face the Roadrunners of Metropolitan State College of Denver.  Metro State is currently in fifth place in the RMAC with a 7-3-2 conference record and 10-4-2 in overall play.  The match on is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.  If you can't make the trip up to Denver to watch the Cowgirls in action, you can click HERE to follow the game live on the America One Network.
