Box Score The NMHU Cowgirl Soccer team fought to a 0-0 tie in a thrilling double overtime game against the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College, on 10/5, in Las Vegas, N.M.  With the draw, the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Justin Wagar, improve to 2-4-1 in the RMAC and 4-6-1 in overall play.

The Cowgirls went on the attack from the start of the game and had a several good shot opportunities early on.  The game turned into a battle of ball control in the middle of the pitch until the Skyhawks gained some offensive momentum at the end of the first period.  Neither team was able to find the goal so the game remained tied, 0-0, going into halftime.

The Cowgirls again came out on the offensive at the beginning of the second half.  At this point the teams were very evenly matched and they battled for control in midfield.  Both sides generated a few scoring opportunities from breakaways but neither side could finish their attacks.  The Cowgirls finished the second half in strong fashion, but when the horn sounded to end regular time the game was still scoreless.

Both teams played with determination in regular time and despite significant attempts by both squads, neither team was able to finish the game.  The stage had been set for an overtime battle.

The Cowgirls were on the offensive from the very beginning of the first overtime period and they were able to generate the only shot of the period.    With the game still locked up in a scoreless draw the teams prepared for double overtime.

In the second overtime, both the Cowgirls and the Skyhawks played themselves to exhaustion.  The intensity of the game had reached epic proportions as both sides fought for the win, but when the final horn sounded this exciting RMAC Women's Soccer contest ended in a 0-0 tie.

The Cowgirls played with determination on offense against the Skyhawks, but the story of the game was the outstanding defense of both sides.

The game was an extremely physical match with a total of 28 combined fouls.  The referee also issued four yellow cards in the match, two for each side.

Cowgirl goalkeeper Nikita Rivera made four big-time saves to keep NMHU in the contest.  She showed total disregard for her personal safety in two of the saves when she dove at the feet of a Skyhawks' attacker to take the ball off of their feet.

The Cowgirls will continue conference play on Sunday, 10/7, when they travel to Lakewood, Colo., to face the Cougars of Colorado Christian University.    The Cougars are currently in last place in the RMAC with a 0-7 conference record and 2-9 in overall play. The game on Sunday is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.  If you can't make it up to Lakewood to watch the Cowgirls in action, you can click HERE to follow the game live on the America One Network or click HERE to view the Live Stats.
