Box Score The NMHU Cowboys fell to the Mountaineers of Western State College on 2/11 by a final score of 90-84 in Gunnison, Colo. The Cowboys and the Mountaineers would trade leads throughout the first half. The Pokes led by as much as nine points in the first half, but WSC would mount a late surge in the final minutes of play to go into the halftime break up 46-41. In the second half the Mountaineers would jump out in front of the Cowboys and lead by as much as 11 points before the 10 minutes mark. The Cowboys would mount a comeback of their own in the last minutes of play as
Micah Shepard hit a long range three-point bucket to tie the score up at 65-65 at the 8:41 mark. The Cowboys lead would be short lived, as the Mountaineers would again take control and stay in control as they defeated NMHU 90-85 handing the Cowboys their fourth straight loss. With the loss, the Cowboys are now 10-13 overall and 8-11 in RMAC play.
As a team, the Cowboys finished the night shooting 37% from the field and a lowly 52% from the free throw line. Defensively, the Pokes pulled down 30 defensive rebounds, stole the ball from the Mountaineers six times and forced 12 WSC turnovers.
Mike Moody scored a career high 22 points against the Mountaineers as he led all scorers for the night. Moody also nabbed 11 rebounds to complete his first double-double of the season. Moody added in one assist and one steal to his nights totals.
Aaryon Williams also finished the night with his first double-double of the season pulling down 10 rebounds and scoring 13 points for the night. Williams added in two assists to his totals for the game.
Rounding out the top three for the Pokes was
Momcilo Latinovic with 12 points, four rebounds and one steal.
The Cowboys will return home to take on their next opponents as they host the Rangers of Regis University on 2/17 for NMHU's third annual PINK OUT Breast Cancer Awareness Event.
