Box Score The NMHU Cowboys fell to #18 Metro State College 75-71 on 2/18 in Las Vegas, N.M. The loss to the Roadrunners is only Cowboys second loss this season on their home court. The Cowboys jumped out to an early lead the #18 team in the country as they started out on a 12-0 run in the first half to put the Roadrunners in a hole early. The Pokes would lead by as much as 14 points in the first half and go into the halftime break leading 48-39. In the second half The Cowboys continued their offensive onslaught early in the second half against Metro State and would regain their 14 points lead at the 16 minute mark. After that, the Roadrunners caught fire. Metro State would go on a 13-4 run to take the lead away from the Pokes for the first time in the game with 10 minutes remaining. From that point on it would be a battle down to the wire as the Cowboys and Metro State traded the lead numerous times. In the final minutes of play The Cowboys would pull as close as 71-70, but that would be as close as the Pokes would come to the #18 Roadrunners. Metro State would sink three free throws in the final seconds of play to secure their 21st win of the season 75-71. With the loss the Cowboys are now 11-14 overall and 9-12 in RMAC play.
As a team the Cowboys finished the night shooting 47% from the field and 18% from the three-point line. The Pokes would pull down 33 rebounds on the night. Defensively, NMHU forced five Metro State turnovers, blocked three shots and stole the ball four times from the Roadrunners.
Aaryon Williams led the way for the Cowboys leading all scorers with 22 points for the night. Williams finished the night 7-8 from the field and 8-13 from the charity stripe. Williams added in six rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot to his nights totals.
Momcilo Latinovic finished second in scoring for the Pokes with 15 points. Latinovic would also finish second on the team in rebounds with seven. Fellow Cowboy
Billy Austin would pull down a game high 10 rebounds for the night.
Lionel Coleman rounds out the top performers for the Pokes with 13 points, two rebounds, two assists, one blocked shot and three steals.
The Cowboys will remain home for their final game of the 2011-12 regular season as they host in-state rival the Mustangs of Western New Mexico on 2/25. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. in the John A.
