#18 Adams State Tops Cowboys, 92-77

Box Score Alamosa, Colo. – The Cowboys finished this weekend's tough Colorado conference road-trip with a 92-77 loss to NABC Division II 18th ranked Adams State University on 1/12.  With the loss the Cowboys, led by Head Coach Joe Harge, fall to a 3-7 record in the RMAC and 5-9 in overall play.

Mannie Cass started the scoring in the game by draining a three-point shot for the Cowboys.  The team took their cue from this good start and the Cowboys were able to run out to a 13 point lead (23-10) eight minutes into the first half.

The Cowboys were doing a good job of maintaining their lead before the Grizzlies went on an 8-0 run to close to within five points (28-23) with 6:17 left in the half.  Adams State continued to close the gap and when the buzzer sounded halftime, they had taken a slim two point lead (42-40) into the locker-room.

The teams exchanged the lead at the beginning of the second half, but the Grizzlies slowly clawed out in front.  The Cowboys were still hanging in until Adams State managed to extend their lead to 10 points (74-64) with 6:43 remaining. 

The Cowboys reached down and made another attempt to catch the Grizzlies.  Stargell Love hit two free-throw shots, with 4:29 left, to cut the lead down to five points (78-73).  But Adams State responded and used the final minutes of the game to solidify their advantage.  When the buzzer sounded to end the game the Grizzlies had taken the victory on their home court, 92-77.

Mannie Cass scored a team-high 27 points in his 25 minutes against Adams State.  Cass was on fire from long range, draining 6-8 from three-point range.  He also had three rebounds and one blocked shot.

Augustus French continued to show his strong defensive skills with three blocked shots and five rebounds.  French also scored nine points, going 3-4 from both the field and the free-throw line.

The Grizzlies' bench made a difference in Saturday night's game, outscoring the Cowboys' reserves 41-20.  Adams State also outscored the Cowboys 23-12 on points off turnovers.
