Box Score Las Vegas, N.M. – The NMHU Cowgirls end their eight match losing streak against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, on Oct. 12, with a three set match sweep of the Mountain Lions in the John A. Wilson Complex. The Cowgirls, led by Head Coach
Bryan Crawford, move up to 2-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and 8-10 in overall play.
The Cowgirls came out ready to fight and started the first set with some fire under them, getting a good lead (14-9). The Mountain Lions started to come back towards the end but the Cowgirls were not letting that happen tonight, they held on to the lead and
Darian Mullen slapped the ball to end the first set (25-20)
Going into the second set, the Mountain Lions took the lead in the beginning but the Cowgirls fought back and in no time had the lead (22-11). The Mountain Lions did not back down though and battled back into the game closing the gap (24-20), but freshman
Bailey Weidner was not having it and ended the second set with a killer hit (25-20).
The last set was close the whole time, the Cowgirls and Mountain Lions were going back and forth with kills and errors. Finally the Cowgirls got a spark and took a good lead (22-17). To end the set and the Mountain Lions winning strike against the Cowgirls was an amazing defensive block by
Daisy Gonzalez and
Alicia Moreno (25-21).
The top performers of the night were
Darian Mullen with 13 kills and
Jessica Piper with 16 digs.
The Cowgirls will continue conference action, on Oct. 18, against Black Hills State University (S.D.) at their place in Spearfish, S.D. at 7:00 pm. If you can't make the trip up to Spearfish to catch your Cowgirls in action, you can watch the match live on the
