Box Score Las Vegas, N.M.  – The NMHU Men's Basketball team fell short of victory against #14 Fort Lewis College, on Feb. 9, by the final score of 83-74.  The Cowboys were still able to earn a weekend split on their home court against two ranked opponents.   With the loss the Cowboys, led by Head Coach Joe Harge, fall to 8-9 in the RMAC and 10-11 in overall play.

The Skyhawks took control of the game early and they were able to run up a nine point lead (20-11) with 12:16 left in the first half.  Fort Lewis would lead by as much as 16 points in the half, but the Cowboys were able to cut the lead down to 12 points (47-35) going into halftime.

Mannie Cass started the scoring in the second half for the Cowboys, with a jump shot in the lane.   NMHU closed to within eight points of the Skyhawks (52-44) with 17:34 remaining in the game.

Unfortunately, the Skyhawks were able to hold off the Cowboys for the remainder of the game, holding a double-digit advantage for much of the second half.  When the final buzzer sounded, Fort Lewis had secured the road victory by the final score of 83-74.

Mannie Cass led the Cowboys with 19 points against the Skyhawks.  He went 2-3 from three-point range and 7-13 from the field.  He also had four rebounds, one steal, one assist, and a blocked shot in his 28 minutes.

Stargell Love came off the bench to score 15 points for the Cowboys.   Love grabbed four rebounds, one steal, and dished out four assists in 30 minutes on the court.

Lavell McDade rounds out the Cowboys' top performers against the Skyhawks.  He had 13 points, six assists, three steals, and two rebounds in a team-high 37 minutes of playing time.

The Cowboys were able to secure one victory this weekend against two NCAA DII nationally ranked opponents.  They defeated the #23 Grizzlies of Adams State on Feb. 8, earning a very important victory as they look to make the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference postseason tournament.  They are still holding on to seventh place in the conference and the top eight teams will advance to the postseason.

The Cowboys will continue conference action at home, on Feb. 15, when they host the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University, in Las Vegas, N.M.  The Mavericks are sitting in second place in the RMAC, with a 13-4 conference record and 16-5 in overall play.  The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off time, following the Cowgirls' game.  If you can't make it out to the John A.
