Box Score Las Vegas, N.M. - The Cowgirls suffered their second loss in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference by the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College. They lost in five tough sets (25-21, 25-19, 16-25, 21-25, and 11-15). The Cowgirls, led by Head Coach
Bryan Crawford, are now 6-3 overall and 0-2 in the RMAC.
FLC 3 - NMHU 2
In the beginning of the first set it was a tie at eight to eight. Then the Cowgirls controlled the pace, intensity, and the lead. They closed the game on a 17-13 run. Leading the Cowgirls during this run was junior
Alicia Moreno and she contributed with six kills.
After an early tie in the second set it was three to three. The Skyhawks would take the lead at 17-13. The Cowgirls rallied and overcame this deficit by going on a seven to three run. They took control of the lead at 20-18. They captured the lead late in the set and won the second set. Leading the Cowgirls in the second set was
Alicia Moreno and senior
Darian Mullen. They both had four kills each.
In the third set, the Cowgirls were once again tied with the Skyhawks at eight to eight. However, the Skyhawks would take control of the lead and never look back, winning the set 25-16.
The fourth set was very intense, which had several ties and lead changes. The Skyhawks would continue to fight to regain the lead. The Cowgirls couldn't capitalize on several lead opportunities to finish the set and Fort Lewis captured the fourth set by a 25-21 margin.
In the final set of the match, the Cowgirls were fighting to come back in the set. The Skyhawks' momentum was just too much for the Cowgirls to overcome and Fort Lewis captured their first victory of the season with a 15-11 fifth set victory.
