Cowboys Look to Trap the Jackrabbits of Wayland Baptist Tuesday

Junior Justin Rockhill clinched the first meeting between these two teams with a tech fall win at 197.
LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The New Mexico Highlands University Cowboy wrestling team (4-4, 1-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) will compete in a non-conference dual meet against NAIA opponent, Wayland Baptist University on Tuesday (Feb. 4) at 7 p.m. in Plainview, Texas. The Cowboys earned a victory in their last dual against #12 NAIA Oklahoma City University by a final score of 22-15.

"We are looking forward to continuing competition to gain valuable experience for the post season," head coach Doug Moses noted.


A more in depth look into the Cowboy Charge

Once again, sophomore Erick Rangel at 125 pounds and redshirt sophomore Juan Alvarado at 165 pounds are leading the team in victories and is leading the Cowboy Charge. Assisting the Cowboy Charge are the upper weights classes. Junior Easton Hargrave at 174 pounds, senior Igor Gomzin at 184 pounds, junior Justin Rockhill at 197 pounds and redshirt freshman Cody Marquez at 285 pounds.  Marquez is third on the team in victories and Hargrave is fourth on the team in victories.

Juan Alvarado (19-6) and is 2-3 in the RMAC.

Easton Hargrave (12-10) and is 3-2 in the RMAC.

Igor Gomzin (10-8) and is 3-2 in the RMAC.

Justin Rockhill (9-6) and is 3-2 in the RMAC.

Cody Marquez (13-7) and is 3-2 in the RMAC.


A brief look into the Jackrabbits of Wayland Baptist University

The Jackrabbits earned a victory in their last dual meet against Northwest Tech, by the final score of 30-11. The Cowboys beat Wayland Baptist 32-18 Jan. 5 in Albuquerque, N.M.
