Colorado Springs, Colorado - The 2025-26 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Preseason Coach's Poll was released yesterday and New Mexico Highlands was tabbed for a seventh place finish in voting by the conference's wrestling coaches.
"I'm excited about the ten student-athletes we'll have in our line-up this year, and the 30 others who are in the trenches with them every day," said Cowboy's head coach Chris Freije. "They're all made of quality character, take pride in this community, have big work ethics, and love and live the sport of wrestling. All-in-all it's just a great group of young men who are cut from a similar cloth, and bring their best every day. There's a lot of wrestling left to do, and ideally when March gets here we'll be sitting in a different position than 7th in our conference."
Ivan Smith, 2025 NCAA Super Regional VI champion at 165 pounds, leads the returnees on the NMHU roster. Additionally, this year's roster has 28 newcomers including 18 freshmen and 10 transfers.
The Cowboys open the 2025-26 season with a home dual against Trinidad State College on November 7th. The season culminates with the Super Regional VII in Golden, Colorado, on February 28th and the NCAA Division II National Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, March 13-14.
