DENVER - The Cowgirls managed only a walk while the Roadrunners put up five runs in the final three innings as New Mexico Highlands (22-27) fell to Metroplitan State University of Denver (39-12) 5-0 Thursday afternoon (April 30) in the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament in Denver, Colorado.
Scoreless through three, the Roadrunners struck in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Mary Towner beat out an infield single. Towner advanced to second on
Kaylynn Harmon's single. She stopped halfway and retreated back to third, but Harmon took second. Senior
Jessica Brink got a strikeout, but Chelsea Brew added the two-RBI single.
After manufacturing a run in the fifth, MSU-Denver put the capper on the game as Brew added a two-run home run. She finished the game with four RBI's.
Brink fell to 14-11 on the year, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in six innings of work. Cassidy Smith (17-5) for MSU Denver threw a no-hitter, allowing only a walk to junior
Dekota Monarrez in the sixth.
The Cowgirls play CSU-Pueblo at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. New Mexico Highlands took 3-of-4 from the Thunderwolves earlier this season in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
