Box Score DENVER - The Cowgirls 2015 softball season came to an end Thursday (April 30) at the hands of the Thunderwolves as New Mexico Highlands (22-28) lost to CSU-Pueblo (28-22) 4-1 in the second round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.
Highlands tried to put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth. With no one on base, senior
Jacquelyn Wood and junior
Jacquelyn Solis singled. Redshirt freshman
Gabby Hansell singled through the right side to score the lone Cowgirl run, but she was thrown out trying to advance on the throw.
The Cowgirls managed seven hits in the loss. Freshman Michelle Brincfield picked up the loss, falling to 5-9 on the season by allowing nine hits and four runs (three earned) in seven innings of work.
CSU-Pueblo put up a pair of runs in both the first and third. Alexa Snyder led off the game with a single to left, followed by Sidney Bailey legging out an infield single. After a strikeout, Madison Wolfe hit a small pop-up that fell in front of the runner as she reached safely. Dora Hernandez then grounded to second, but Hansell failed to apply the tag which allowed two runs to score. However, the Cowgirls threw behind the runner to retire Wolfe at second.
Woolfe finished the day with three hits in as many at-bats.
Chrystal Reese added an RBI double while Hernandez picked up her second RBI of the day on a groundout in the third. Kelli Henry (15-5) had the complete-game win, allowing seven hits and one run in the game.
The Cowgirls finished the season doubling their win total (22) from 2014 and made the RMAC Tournament for the first time in a decade.
