Making Her Mark
Junior
Michelle Traynham was knocking on the door on breaking the school record and looked to solidify her position to make the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships later this month.
Mission accomplished.
At the West Texas A&M Twilight last Saturday (April 25), Traynham broke the school record and moved to ninth in the nation with a throw of 46.59 meters (152'10").
"I have to give a lot of credit to Michelle," Head Coach
Bob DeVries said. "Coach Dunbar made a major change in her technique last week and it paid off. That shows a real level of trust. A lot of athletes would say 'I'm not comfortable with a change this late in the season" but she embaced the adjustment and it paid off.
Traynham will be one of four athletes participating in the javelin throw from Highlands on Sunday morning.
Next Up
Depending on the results this weekend, the New Mexico Highlands track and field team returns to action at the Air Force Academy Twilight Qualifier next Friday (May 8) and at the Colorado School of Mines Last Chance Qualifier next Saturday (May 9).
