Pueblo, Colorado - New Mexico Highlands opened the 2026 outdoor track & field season this weekend at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Invitational, hosted by CSU Pueblo.
New Mexico Highlands received outstanding efforts from a pair of runners who were in Virginia Beach just a week ago competing at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Senior
Patreece Clarke delivered another standout performance, winning the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.02 seconds. Her mark is the fastest in the nation this season to date.
Junior
Ashley Barrett also turned in a strong early-season performance, winning the 200m dash in a time of 23.31 seconds. Her mark currently ranks fastest in the nation this season as well.
Amoya Jameison added to the strong showing in the sprints, capturing the women's 400m title with a time of 55.39, while
Misha-Jade Samuels finished eighth in the event with a personal-best time of 58.80.
In the distance events,
Jewels Leslie recorded a personal-best time of 39:51.64 in the 10,000m.
Rojrika Campbell led the field events, winning the triple jump with a mark of 11.83 meters.
Next up, the Cowgirls will have a contingent of throwers competing at Texas Tech on Friday, while the remainder of the team travels to Albuquerque for the UNM Spring Invitational on Saturday.
