Las Vegas, New Mexico - Five members of New Mexico Highlands University have been selected to compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which get underway next Thursday in Emporia, Kansas.
"This is a special group heading to the NCAA National Championships, and it's a testament to the hard work they've put in all season," said NMHU head coach
Bob DeVries. "Coach Russell and I have seen these athletes dial in their focus at exactly the right time."
Senior
Patreece Clarke, this year's NCAA Division II indoor national champion in the 60-meter hurdles, enters the championships as the top qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles.
Ashley Barrett will compete in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.
Rojrika Campbell qualified in both the long jump and triple jump.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Clarke, Barrett, Kaci-Jo Davis, and
Amoya Jameison will also represent NMHU at the national championships.
"Having Patreece going in as the No. 1 seed in the 100 hurdles is huge, and Ashley's top-10 rankings in both the 100 meters (No. 5) and 200 meters (No. 8) show just how much range she has," added DeVries. "Our 4x100 relay can race even faster, and with Rojrika ready to compete in both the long jump (No. 11) and triple jump (No. 9), we have scoring threats across multiple events. We're going there to compete with the best and represent Highlands on the national stage."
The Cowgirls finished 17th at last year's NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Pueblo.
