Cowgirls Fall to the Skyhawks

Durango, CO- The New Mexico Highlands Women's Volleyball team lost to the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks by a score of 3-0. Your Cowgirls are now sitting at 5-13 overall, and 2-11 in RMAC.
 
First Set: The Cowgirls came out ready to play as they earned themselves an early 5-0 lead. They extended their lead to 12-6, forcing a Skyhawk timeout. The Skyhawks fought to bring themselves within striking distance and pulled within one to force a Cowgirls timeout with the score at 15-14. The Skyhawks grabbed their first lead of the game at 18-17, and quickly turned it into a 21-18 lead. The Cowgirls could not regain the lead, and fell in the first set 21-25. Redshirt Junior Jasmine Dixon finished the set with 6 kills.
 
Second Set: The Skyhawks continued their hot streak as they flew out to a 6-2 lead before a Highlands timeout stopped play. The Cowgirls would not roll over, but it seemed as though the Skyhawks had an answer for everything they threw at them. They finally pulled themselves within 2 behind Dixon, bringing the score to 17-19. The Cowgirls fought hard to make it a close finish, but they could not crawl out of the hole they dug early. They dropped the set, 25-23.
 
Third Set: The Cowgirls came out battling, bringing the score to 6-6. Both teams traded point for point, and neither was able to pull away, the score was a tight 14-13 with Highlands leading. The Skyhawks climbed back to take the lead at 21-20. They never surrendered their lead as they took the set by 25-22. The Skyhawks took the match 3-0.
 
The Cowgirls will take the court again on October 29th at 7:00 p.m. against the Adams State University Grizzlies.
