Cowgirls Fall to Mountaineers

Las Vegas, NM- The New Mexico Highlands Women's Volleyball team fell to the Western State Colorado Mountaineers, 1-3. Your Cowgirls now drop to 6-16 overall and 3-14 in RMAC.
 
First Set: The Cowgirls came put battling as they brought the set to a 9-9 tie to start out. They sensed the game starting to get away from them, and they stopped play with the score at 11-15. However, they slipped out of the timeout and had a hard time stopping the Mountaineers as they called another timeout trailing 15-22. They could not regain the lead as they Cowgirls fell in the first set, 15-25. Junior Kristin Thomas finished the set with 3 kills and 2 digs.
 
Second Set: The Cowgirls got out to a slow start as they quickly fell behind 6-2 before they called a timeout. This worked for a while, as they caught up to trail by only one, 7-8. However, they could not hold on as they slipped again and fell behind 9-14 before they called another timeout. The Cowgirls could not climb back into contention as they dropped the set, 25-20. Senior Caroline Hansen found a way to get involved as she finished the second set with 5 kills.
 
Third Set: The two teams came out looking evenly matched as they matched point for point, resulting in a 12-12 tie. The Cowgirls started to pull away and the Mountaineers called a quick timeout as they trailed 15-18. The Cowgirls had the 20-19 advantage, and extended their lead to 22-19 forcing a Mountaineer timeout. They would not let the lead slip through their fingers as they won the set, 25-21.
 
Fourth Set: The Mountaineers took an early 4-3 lead to start the fourth set. They would force a Highlands timeout as they led 15-14. The Cowgirls tied it at 17-17, but Western State quickly broke the tie and forced another Highlands timeout at 19-17. The Mountaineers would finish strong and win the set, 25-19. Hansen finished the match with 15 kills and 6 digs.
 
Final Score: Cowgirls-1 Mountaineers-3
 
The Cowgirls will return to action on November 11th at 6:00 p.m. against the Fort Lewis Sky Hawks.
