Las Vegas, NM- New Mexico Highlands University Women's Volleyball swept Black Hill State University (3-0) in tonight's (Sept. 24) home game. Your Cowgirls get their second sweep of the weekend and advance their overall record to 5-4 and 2-2 in RMAC.
First Set:
The Cowgirls came out ready for their second home game at Wilson Complex. The beginning of the first set both teams were neck to neck but then your Cowgirls got the lead. The yellow Jackets tried to catch up but they weren't quick enough. Junior Marissa Hoffman got the last kill ending the first set (25-21).
Second Set:
In the second set, the Cowgirls got the first point with a kill by Freshmen Brianna Montona. Once again both teams were going head to head until the Yellow Jackets went on a 6-0 run to get their first lead of the match. With a couple attack errors from the Yellow Jackets and kills from Senior Caroline Hansen the Cowgirls were back in the game. The Cowgirls get to game point and with an error by the Yellow Jackets they took the second set (25-22)
Third Set:
The Cowgirls came out hot and had a lead 7-4, but Black Hills was not ready to go home with another loss and built a lead 17-13. It looked like this match was going to four sets until back to back kills from Hansen helped the Cowgirls back into the match. As Junior Marissa Hoffman and Montona helped rally their team to the lead with two outstanding kills the Cowgirls tie the set (21-21). Then the Cowgirls went on a four point run and took the last set (25-22).
