Cowgirls fall short to the Lady Buffs

Canyon, TX- New Mexico Highlands University Women's Soccer team fell to West Texas A&M University in tonight's (Sept. 8) game. Your Cowgirls fall to a 0-2-1 overall record and 0-0 RMAC.

1^st Half

The Cowgirls came out ready to play as they capitalized on a free kick by Junior Zinnia Hanning-Marrufo, which slide in the back of the upper corner of the goal. Zinnia helped the Cowgirls to their first goal of the season.  Then two minutes later the Lady Buff answered back with a goal by freshman Marlene van Mourik. As the game stayed tied for about 20 minutes, the Lady Buff found their way around your cowgirl's defense and hits another shoot right into the upper corner of the net.  The Cowgirls battled to get another chance at tying the game before half but could not get the ball pass the Goalkeeper. Your Cowgirls went into the half down by one.

2^nd Half

Your Cowgirls had a hard time getting passed the Lady Buff defensive and with only three minutes in the second half West Texas Marlene van Mourik had got three shot attempts on them. Two of her shots were wide and the other one was a nice save by Highlands Goalie Apolonia Thomas. Our Cowgirls defensive fought off these Lady Buff with two straight blocked but that did not stop West Texas from getting their last goal of the night from freshman Ronni Ajeto. With only 20 minutes left in the game, Cowgirls Hanning-Marrufo got her another chance but kicked it too wide.  As the game came to an end, Freshman Naomi Morales found her way around the Lady Buff defensive and got a shot on goal but West Texas Goalkeeper got her hands on the ball to end the match.

Final Score 3-1

The Cowgirls will continue their season on September 11 in San Angelo, Texas against #16 Angelo State University at 11 am.  Live Stats and Video will be available online.
