Las Vegas, NM- The New Mexico Highlands University Baseball team fell to the West Texas A&M Buffs, 2-21, in the second game of their three game series. Your Cowboys drop to 0-2 overall.

Junior
Dakota Pacheco started the day on the mound for the Cowboys. After giving up a single to the first batter he faced, he responded strong by striking out two batters to retire the side. The Cowboys couldn't muster up much at bat in the bottom of the first as Junior
Luis Ornelas was the only one to reach base.
Â
Pacheco had good command of his pitches as he allowed only 3 hits in the first four innings. All three of those hits came in the first and second innings. He was able to keep the Buffs off of the board until the top of the fifth. West Texas got out to a fast start in the top of the inning and put up 3 runs before Pacheco could retire the side. The Cowboys were able to get on base, but two early outs doomed them as they left two runners on base.

Senior
Dylan Norris came on in relief of Pacheco at the top of the sixth. He started out well as the first batter he faced flew out, but then he proceeded to walk the next batter. He handled himself well, but the Buffs smacked a 3 run home run to extend their lead to 6-0. Norris made quick work of the next two batters to get out of the inning.
Â
The Cowboys had a tough top of the eighth inning as they saw 6 runners cross home plate. However, they were able to get themselves on the board as Junior
Frankie Silva got across. It would be Senior
Brian Chaparro who would pick up the RBI on a single. Senior
Ben Smithson also got across in the bottom of the ninth.
