The New Mexico Highlands University Baseball team opened up their series against the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks with a 0-6 loss. Your Cowboys fall to 10-18 overall and 6-10 RMAC.

Senior
Easton Garcia led off the game for the Cowboys with a single, but he would be left stranded. Junior pitcher
Dakota Pacheco started the day on the mound and played well as he only allowed one hit in the bottom of the first.

Junior
James Cordova led off the top of the second with a single, then Sophomore
Travis Spruiell followed him with a single of his own. They would not find the home plate, but Pacheco would pitch another solid inning as he kept the Mavericks from getting a hit.

It was a battle of the pitchers for this game until the stalemate was finally broken. The Mavericks were finally able to break the ice in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored a run to take the 1-0 lead.

Junior
Codie Simmons singled to center field to get the Cowboys on base in the top of the eighth. Sophomore
Joseph Cilladi would find base next, at the expense of Simmons however as he was called out at second. Garcia would walk next, giving the Cowboys two on base, but a strikeout would end their hopes for a rally. The Mavericks found a rhythm in the bottom of the inning as they score 5 more runs, running the score to 6-0.

Three straight strikeouts in the top of the ninth would doom the Cowboys as they ultimately fell, 0-6.

The Cowboys will take on the Mavericks in a doubleheader tomorrow, April 1
st, at 12:00 p.m.

Go Cowboys!
