Plainview, Texas- The New Mexico Highlands University Baseball team outlasted the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers, 16-12. Your Cowboys improve to 14-26 overall and 9-19 RMAC.

Senior
Easton Garcia would lead off the game with a single up the middle, but he would be left stranded. Senior pitcher
Phil Trujillo would start the day on the mound for his team. He got out to a solid start as he only allowed one hit in the bottom of the first.

Junior
Eduardo Perez opened up the top of the second with a single down the right field line. Sophomore
Travis Spruiell duplicated this in his at bat, pushing Perez to third base. Junior
Codie Simmons picked up the RBI as he hit a single to score Perez. Senior
Brad Blackwell came up to the plate and smacked a 3 RBI triple as he scored Spruiell, Simmons, and Sophomore
Joseph Cilladi. Trujillo did his job in the bottom of the inning as he only allowed one hit once again. The Cowboys would take a 4-0 lead into the third inning.

Junior
Luis Ornelas got on base with some help from the Pioneer field to start the fourth inning. Garcia would pick up the RBI as he nailed a double to left field, scoring Ornelas. Garcia then scored as Senior
Jeremy McCarty flew out. Perez would bring Blackwell home later as he hit a single to left field. The Pioneers picked up their first two runs of the game in the bottom of the inning.

Garcia picked up another RBI in the top of the fifth as he brought Cilladi home with a single. The Pioneers would make up a little more ground in the bottom of the inning as they scored two runs, cutting into the Cowboy lead at 8-4.

McCarty put his power on display in the top of the sixth as he led off with a solo homer. Senior pitcher
Dylan Norris came on in relief for Trujillo in the bottom of the inning. He got out to a great start as he struck out his first two batters and didn't allow a hit.

James Cordova earned his way onto base in the top of the eighth with a walk. He wouldn't be standing there much longer as Perez crushed a two run home run. The bottom of the inning could have spelt disaster for the Cowboys as they went through two pitchers and gave up 8 runs off of 8 hits. The Pioneers took a 12-11 lead into the ninth.

The Cowboys needed their bats to come to life and they did. McCarty picked up the RBI as he flew out, giving Cilladi the chance to knot the game up at 12. With the bases loaded, Spruiell earned a walk, scoring Garcia. Simmons was also walked, giving Blackwell the free path to home. Ornelas capped off the rally with a two RBI single as Spruiell and Cordova would both score. The Cowboys turned to Junior pitcher
Brett Martin in the bottom of the inning. He did his job as he didn't allow a hit.

The Martin and the Cowboys would secure the 16-12 victory.

The Cowboys will come home for the weekend as they take on the Adams State University Grizzlies on April 28
th at 3:00 p.m.
