Pueblo, CO- The New Mexico Highlands University Baseball team fell to the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunder Wolves today by a score of 8-11. Your Cowboys fall to 13-22 overall and 9-13.

The Cowboys couldn't get their bats going in the top of the first as they went down in order. Senior pitcher
Phil Trujillo wanted a better start to the game as the Thunder Wolves scored 5 runs off of 5 hits in the bottom of the first.

Senior
Jeremy McCarty was the first Cowboy to get on base as he notched a single to lead off the second. Junior
Eduardo Perez was able to find a base soon after as he singled to right. Senior
Brian Chaparro also found himself on base with a single, but the side would be retired before they could capitalize on it. Trujillo bounced back with some solid work in the bottom of the inning.

Sophomore
Joseph Cilladi led off the top of the third with a single. Senior
Easton Garcia came up next and also hit a single to put two runners on base with no outs. Junior
Luis Ornelas took advantage of a nice pitch and singled out to right, allowing Cilladi to come home. Trujillo kept Pueblo off of the score board for the second straight inning, bringing the score to 1-5 after three innings.

The Cowboys had a big inning in the fifth as McCarty hit a two RBI single that scored Ornelas and Senior
Brad Blackwell. Soon after, McCarty would score off of a wild pitch. Junior
Codie Simmons capped off the inning with a two RBI single that scored Perez and Junior
James Cordova. This helped them make up the ground they needed as the game was all tied up at 6-6.

The Cowboys would pick up 2 more runs in the top of the sixth as Garcia and Blackwell both scored off of fly outs. Trujillo and Senior pitcher
Max Siedlecki combined to keep the Thunder Wolves tame in the bottom of the inning to secure a 8-6 Cowboy lead going into the final stretch.

A disastrous seventh inning would doom the Cowboys as they gave up 4 runs.

The Cowboys would ultimately fall to the Thunder Wolves, 8-11.

The Cowboys will continue their road trip as they take on the University of Colorado–Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on April 13
th.
