Volleyballl drops two in Utah

Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands (1-22, 0-15 RMAC) lost a pair of matches over the weekend to Dixie State on Friday night and Westminster on Saturday afternoon.
 
AGAINST DIXIE STATE: The Trailblazers posted a straight set win over the Cowgirls on Friday night as the Cowgirls couldn't seem to get going offensively. Dixie State would take the back-and-forth first set 25-20. The Cowgirls would then start hot in the second set as they found themselves ahead 8-4 early on but the Trailblazers would rally back to tie the game at nine, followed by a 16-6 run to win the second set 25-15. The Trailblazers would take an early 7-2 lead over the Cowgirls in the third set and would eventually win 25-18.
 
Camryn Nelson led the way for the Cowgirls offense as she recorded 12 kills and 2 service aces. Keegan Lopez (7 kills) and Bayley Willis (5 kills) would also aid the Cowgirls attack. Celina Naranjo ended with 19 assists and 3 service aces and Bryanna Lopez finished with 13 digs.
 
AGAINST WESTMINSTER: The Cowgirls must have had a rough day traveling as they started out slow and dropped the first set 25-13. The Cowgirls played a lot tougher in the second set, losing 27-25. The Cowgirls would then rally to win the third set 26-24 but would go on to lose the fourth set 26-24.
 
The Cowgirls were led by Keegan Lopez as she recorded a team high 14 kills and also 4 digs. The Cowgirl defense was led by Bryanna Lopez as she tallied 30 digs and a service ace. Taley Ferrari (11 kills and 1 block), Camryn Lopez (12 kills and 8 digs), and Celina Naranjo (22 assists and 13 digs) would also aid the Cowgirls.
 
The Cowgirls will be back in action next weekend where they will travel to Colorado to take on Fort Lewis at 7 pm on Friday and Adams State at 7 pm on Saturday.
