GOLDEN, COLO. --- Two large first-half runs by No. 11 Colorado School of Mines was too much for the New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team to overcome as the Cowboys fell 100-73 Friday night at Lockridge Arena.

NMHU (16-8 overall, 11-7 RMAC) held a 14-11 lead on the Orediggers (21-3, 18-0) early in the first half before a 15-2 run by Mines in which the Cowboys went 1-for-10 from the field (including 0-for-6 from 3-point range) and committed a trio of turnovers made it 26-16.

NMHU – led by
Raquan Mitchell – fought back into the game at 31-25 before Mines again went on a run – this one 14-0 – to eventually take a 45-27 lead at the break, a half that saw the Cowboys shoot 11-for-31 from the field (35.5 percent) compared to 58.6 percent (17-for-29, including 7-for-12 from 3-point range) for the Orediggers.

The Cowboys got to within 13 points late in the second half, but couldn't get any closer.

Mitchell led NMHU with 26 points, going 4-for-9 from 3-point range, while
Adrian LaFleur had 17 points (4-for-10 from 3) and
Gerad Davis had 15 points. The Cowboys finished the game shooting 40.3 percent from the field, including going 9-for-30 from 3-point range. The Orediggers went 13-for-22 from 3-point range (59.1 percent) on their way to shooting 57.9 percent from the field.

NMHU continues its road trip 7:30 p.m. Saturday as the Cowboys take on UC Colorado Springs.
