LAKEWOOD, Colo. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team after dropping a game in 11 innings in the doubleheader opener against Colorado Christian on Monday bounced back to take game two 6-5 to split the four-game series on the road at All Star Park.

The Cowboys (14-24 overall, 7-17 RMAC) in the second game took a 3-0 lead in the fifth after
Carlos Ramirez scored on an error,
Cody Reilly scored on a passed ball and
Joe Cilladi drove in
Auggie Francis with an RBI single to right.

After the Cougars (11-26, 6-18) scored a run in the bottom of the fifth,
Carlos Ramirez blasted a two-run homer to left to make it 5-1. Ramirez added an RBI with a single to left in the seventh to make it 6-1. The Cougars scored four runs in the seventh, but JT Mossberg was able to finish it for the complete game victory.

Mossberg got the win, giving up five runs (three earned) on nine hits with a strikeout and two walks. Ramirez paced the Cowboys at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home runs, three RBI and two runs. Cilladi went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases.

In game one, the Cowboys fell behind 3-0 heading into the eighth inning before a
Gaylan Young RBI single ignited a three-run inning that included
Jared Brown scoring on a passed ball and Young scoring on a wild pitch.

The game remained tied 3-3 until the 11th when the Cougars hit a walk-off RBI single to win it 4-3.

Sergio Lucero picked up the loss, going 1.1 innings and giving up a run on two hits with a strikeout and a walk.
Cameron Polich was solid starting for NMHU, going five innings and giving up three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Jacob Padilla (two innings) and
Ricardo Santillan (1.2 innings) combined to throw 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Young and
Travis Spruiell led the Cowboys at the plate, each going 2-for-5.

NMHU will have a short turnaround as the Cowboys travel to take on No. 8 and conference leading Colorado Mesa starting Thursday in Grand Junction.
