ST. GEORGE, Utah --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 13-4 and 9-1, Saturday to Dixie State at Karl Brooks Field.
 
In the first game, the Cowgirls (8-27 overall, 7-22 RMAC) answered a four-run first inning by the Trailblazers (33-10, 27-9) with a four-run second inning that included an 
Angelina Guthro two-run single and a 
Desiree Madrid RBI single to make it 4-4.
 
But DSU scored four more runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the fourth and three in the fifth to force the run rule. 
Desiree Bogarin picked up the loss for the Cowgirls, going 4.1 innings and giving up 13 runs (10 earned) on 13 hits with four strikeouts and seven walks.
 
In the second game the Trailblazers led 3-0 after three before scoring a run in the fourth and another three in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead. In the top of the sixth 
Desiree Madrid hit a solo homer for the Cowgirls, but DSU scored two in the bottom of the inning to force the run rule. 
Megan Jesionowski got the loss for the Cowgirls, going five innings and giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits with two strikeouts and seven walks.
 
NMHU concludes the season next Saturday and Sunday with a three-team pod in Lakewood, Colorado, against Colorado Christian and Colorado Mesa.
