Cowgirls fall twice on day 2 of Rosella Meier Fall Classic

Las Vegas, NM --- The Cowgirls (1-7, 0-0), who are still searching for a solid starting line-up, lost to Nebraska-Kearney (8-0) and Arkansas Tech (3-5) today at the Rosella Meier Fall Classic.

Nebraska-Kearney came in to this weekend ranked #8 in the nation, and they showed why, as the Lopes defeated the Cowgirls in three straight sets (25-6, 25-8, 25-9).

The Cowgirls were able to bounce back against Arkansas Tech, as both teams combined for 56 points. The first set hurt the Cowgirls as they found themselves down early 7-3, and the Golden Suns never looked back, winning the set 25-11.

The second set was a thriller that ended in heartbreak for the Cowgirls, as they found themselves ahead for most of the set. Keegan Lopez led the Cowgirls throughout the set, raking in 6 of the Cowgirls 13 kills. However, the Golden Suns came-back to win the set 29-27.

In the third set, the Cowgirls would find themselves down early, 7-3. Taley Ferrari had two kills that helped spark the Cowgirls back into the game and tie the set at 11-11. The Golden Suns would then outscore the Cowgirls, 15-10, and win the set 25-21.
Keegan Lopez ended the game with a team high 13 kills, 6 digs and a block. Taley Ferrari and Sierra Foley were also able to tally in 7 kills for the Cowgirls. Freshman Meranda Romero was able to step in for the Cowgirls defense with a team high 15 digs and Stacy Johnson cleaned up the net with a team high 4 blocks.

The Cowgirls will be back in action on Homecoming weekend, September 20-21, as they will host Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado in Las Vegas, NM. Game times are set for 7 pm on Friday and 6 pm on Saturday.
