Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team heads to Colorado for a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contests against Colorado Mesa on Friday night and Western Colorado on Saturday night.


ABOUT COLORADO MESA: The Mavericks are currently tied for 5th place in RMAC standing with a 4-3 conference record. The Mavs are coming off a tough weekend where they fell to South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State.
 
The Mavs are coming in to the weekend averaging 81.8 points per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 40.6% from three and average 33.9 rebounds and 13.6 assists per game.
 
Tommy Nuno leads the way with 15.9 points per game and also a team high 6.3 rebounds per game and not far behind is Georgie Dancer at 15.5 points per game. Michael Skinner (11.1 points, 5.5 rebounds), Jared Small (8.8 points), and Clay Verk (8.1 points) are also players to watch for the Mavericks in Friday night's contest.
 
ABOUT WESTERN COLORADO: The Mountaineers are looking to bounce back after losing their last three games, which includes last weekend to Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines.
 
The Mountaineers come in to the weekend averaging 67.9 points per game while shooting 41.8% from the field and averaging 35.5 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game.
 
The Mountaineers are led by Cole Sienknecht at 13 points per game while also averaging 3.5 rebounds per contest. Jackson Ehrlin (10.8 points, 6.4 rebounds), Matthew Ragsdale (7.3 points) and Monroe Porter (6.8 points) are also players to watch during Saturday night's contest.
 
ABOUT THE COWBOYS: The Cowboys are currently tied for second place in the RMAC standings and are ranked 6th in this week's South Central Region Polls after beating Regis and Colorado Christian last weekend.
 
The Cowboys lead the conference in scoring averaging 95 points per game while allowing 84. On the year, the Cowboys are shooting 48.2% from the field which includes 37.6% from three and also grab 38.1 rebounds and 12.9 assists per game.
 
The Cowboys are led in scoring by Sammy Barnes-Thomkpins at 24.7 points (1st RMAC) and Raquan Mitchell at 23.8 points (3rd RMAC). Thompkins also averages 3.6 rebounds while Mitchell averages 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest. Will Johnson cleans up the boards averaging 6 rebounds and 5.8 points per game while Desmond Carpenter (10.3 points, 4.3 rebounds), DJ Bustos (8.7 points) and David Hall (7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds) are also players to watch out for the Cowboys in this weekend's contests
