Pueblo, CO --- The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team has now won 4 straight after beating CSU-Pueblo 91-68 in the final game of the regular season.

The Cowboys started the half slow, connecting on 3 of their first 7 attempts, and found themselves trailing 9-8 with 15:54 left in the first half.

Sammy Barnes-Thompkins and
DJ Bustos would heat up as Barnes hit 2 3's while Bustos connected on a 3 to give the Cowboys a 21-10 lead at the 11:52 mark in the first half.

The Cowboys would then make a push after going 7 of 14 from three-point territory, and would push to a 36-21 lead at the 6-minute mark in the first half. The Cowboys would head in to the half leading the game with a score of 48-35.

The Cowboys would hold the ThunderWolves to 41.4% (12-29) from the field and 33.3% (4-12) from three, while the Cowboys shot 55.2% (16-29) from the field and 50% (9-18) from three in the first half. Barnes-Thompkins recorded 18 points in the first half after hitting four 3's and Mitchell added 14 points and 4 rebounds.

The Cowboys would open up the half to a good start by extending their lead to as much as 14, before the ThunderWolves inched their way back 61-51 lead for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys defense would hold on strong as they would extend their lead to 75-60 with 6:44 remaining in the game and would maintain that lead to beat the ThunderWolves 91-68.

The Cowboys finished the game shooting 57.4% (31-54) from the field and 51.6% (16-31) from three while grabbing 36 total rebounds and dishing out 18 assists.
Raquan Mitchell finishes the stat line with 27 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds while
Sammy Barnes-Thompkins added 26 points and 2 rebounds.
Desmond Carpenter (11 points, 2 rebounds) also aided the Cowboys on the night. Â Â

The Cowboys have now won 4 straight and finish the season with a 13-9 conference record and the seeding's for the RMAC tournament are pending as we wait for the other conference games to pan out.
