LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision (20-25, 25-16, 26-24, 25-17, 15-12) to Adams State on Tuesday night at Wilson Complex.
The Cowgirls (7-12 overall, 3-6 RMAC) led 2-1 after taking the third set 26-24 after the Grizzlies (8-10, 4-5) held off three straight set points to make it 24-24 before NMHU's
Stacy Johnson and
Lisi Langi racked up back-to-back kills to put the set away.
In the fourth set Adams State used a quick 3-0 run to make it 7-4 nad never looked back as the Cowgirls wouldn't get within two the rest away before falling 25-17 to set up the fifth and deciding set.
In the final set, NMHUÂ built an 8-5 lead after a Langi kill assisted by
Soleil Gandara before Adams State rallied to win the set 15-12 with three of its final four points coming on Cowgirl attack errors.
Angellina Oliver led NMHU with 15 kills while Langi finished with 12 and Johnson had 11 and added a team-best two blocks. Gandara led the team with 55 assists and Stukes had a Cowgirl-best 13 digs.
NMHU returns to action 7 p.m. Friday as it hosts Regis at Wilson Complex.
