LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team was swept by Regis 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-19) on Friday night at Wilson Complex.
The match started strong for the Cowgirls () as they jumped out to a 5-1 lead on Regis in the opening set. The lead was 10-6 before the Rangers went on a 5-0 run to take an 11-10 lead. A kill by
Stacy Johnson ended the run as the Cowgirls eventually built a 16-13 lead before a 7-1 run by Regis gave it the lead for good as they went on to win the game 25-20.
The Cowgirls wouldn't lead in either of the final two sets.
Lisi Langi (7), Johnson (6) and
Terayah Stukes (5) led NMHU in kills while
Soleil Gandara had a team-high 19 assists, Johnson had a team-best eight blocks and Langi and Stukes each led the team with 10 digs apiece.
The Cowgirls return to action 7 p.m. Friday against Colorado Christian to kick off their Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend at Wilson Complex which will continue 5 p.m. Saturday against MSU Denver.
