RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team took the fourth and fifth set to rally and beat South Dakota Mines on the road 3-2 (26-28, 25-19, 26-24, 25-16, 16-14) Sunday at the King Center.
The Cowgirls (8-16 overall, 4-10 RMAC) bounced back after dropping a tough third set 26-24 to dominate the Hardrockers (10-12, 4-10) in the fourth set 25-16 to force a fifth game.
NMHU trailed 4-2 early in the final game before going on a 4-0 run capped by a
Stacy Johnson kill to make it 6-4 Cowgirls. NMHU led 13-10 befrore a 4-0 run by Mines gave it a 14-13 and match point.
But a kill by Johnson, another by
Keegan Lopez and an attack error by the Hardrockers ended the match, 16-14, in favor of the Cowgirls.
Lopez led five Cowgirls in double figures with kills with 19. Angellina Oliver had 15 (to go alogn with a team-best four blocks),
Terayah Stukes had 14 (to go along with a team-best 23 digs) and
Lisi Langi and Johnson each had 10.
Soleil Gandara had 57 assists to lead NMHU.
The Cowgirls hit the road to take on Adams State on Tuesday.
