LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team reached the century mark in its home opener as it defeated University of the Southwest 101-75 on Tuesday at Wilson Complex.
Five players reached double figures for the Cowboys (2-1 overall), led by
Desmond Carpenter as the senior finished with 19 points to go along with four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
NMHU forced the Mustangs into 18 turnovers while committing just six of their own - scoring 24 points off of USW's 18 turnovers.
The Cowboys shot 51.5 percent from the field, including 10-for-24 from 3-point range (41.7 percent).
Mario Archuleta came off the bench and scored 17 points in 18 minutes, going 4-for-5 from 3-point range and 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
Marcus Brown finished with 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting with four rebounds, Ja'Vary Christmas had 12 points while
Jaylen Domina-Lovato had 10 points and a team-best six assists.
The Cowboys return to action Wednesday as they travel to take on Northern New Mexico at 7 p.m. in Espanola.
