Grand Junction, CO --- The Cowboys start the 2021 season off in high fashion as they take down reigning GNAC champions MSU Billings 7-5 in Grand Junction, CO.

Ashton Roy would continue where he left off from a year ago as he led the Cowboys with three RBI's and a homerun while
Gaylan Young made a promising return for the first game of the 2021 campaign going 3-4 with two doubles.

Freshman
Jadrian Martinez stepped up for his first collegiate start of his career while pitching 4 innings and allowing 3 runs off 4 hits and striking out 5 Yellowjackets. Martinez started the game by retiring the side in the first three innings.

The Cowboys would score their first run of the season after
Estevan De La O reached second base off a throwing error by the third basemen.
Joe Kuhn would walk and
Ashton Roy would step up to the plate to record his first RBI of the season with a double to right field.
Jesus Chavez would follow it up with a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Cowboys a slight 2-0 advantage over the Yellowjackets.

MSU Billings would answer right back as Will Riley would homer off the first pitch of the 4
th inning and would connect for a 2-run homerun later in the inning to take a 3-2 over the Cowboys after 3 innings.

Kalen Hammer would step up first for the Cowboys in the bottom of the 4
th and single to left field before
Ashton Roy would give the Cowboys a 4-3 lead with a 2-run shot over the right field fence.

Brady Salyards from Bakersfield, CO would step in to relieve Martinez on the mound for the Cowboys in the top half of the 5
th inning. The Yellowjackets would end up tying the game in the 5
th inning and would not score again in the game until the final inning.

Hammer would bring in
Charles Morgan from third base with a sacrifice fly to left field and a Yellowjacket error would allow the Cowboys to take a 6-4 lead over the Yellowjackets after 5 inning.

The Yellowjackets never seemed to click on defense as
Charles Morgan would reach second base after another throwing error by the third basemen.
Fabian Ferreira would advance Morgan to third with a sacrifice bunt as
Kalen Hammer would bring him in after a fielding error on the shortstop.

The Yellowjoackets would add one more run in the top of the 9
th before freshmen
John Slape stepped in to record his first save of the season as Salyards steps in for his college debut win.
