Las Vegas, NM --- The Cowboys sticks weren't enough as the New Mexico Highlands baseball team fell to MSU Denver on Friday afternoon at Brandt Field.

After trailing by five runs after an inning and a half of play,
Jesus Chavez of NMHU registered the first Cowboy hit of the afternoon with a single to left field. Fabian Ferriera answered with a single up the middle and would move to second off an error from MSU Denver first baseman Cade Peters allowed Ferriera to move to second. With runners on second and third, Kaylen Hammer hit a line drive up the middle to score Chavez and Ferriera and cut the lead to 5-2.

The Cowboys and the Roadrunners would go four straight innings of scoreless baseball before each team scored one run in the seventh inning. The Cowboys capitalized on a throwing error by MSU Denver second baseman Jacob Moyer as

Aidan McNichol from second base with double down the left field line to make it 6-3 Roadrunners.

The Roadrunners exploded for ten runs in the eighth and ninth innings to go on and win game one against the Cowboys 16-3.

The Cowboys finished with seven hits while leaving nine runners on base.
Jesus Chavez led the team with two hits while
Kalen Hammer registered a team high two RBI.

Jadrian Martinez moves to 1-1 on the season after giving up nine runs off thirteen hits and six strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched.
Brandon Baier stepped on the mound to give up seven runs off six hits in 1.1 innings.
