Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team split with Chadron State on Saturday afternoon as 
Nathalie Blattmann led the Cowgirls to a 4-2 win in game two.
 
The Eagles jumped on the Cowgirls with an early 6-1 lead after three innings as 
Carlee Gonzalez (Fr: Rocklin, CA) smacked a home run in the bottom of the second.
 
The Eagles added three more insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning before 
Camrynn Ziegler (Jr; El Paso, TX) showed off her speed with a lead-off triple to right center 
Megan Gutierrez (Fr; Whitier, CA) scored Ziegler with a hard hit grounder to Chadron State shortstop as the Eagles would close out game one with a 9-2 win. Ziegler led the Cowgirls with two hits as freshman 
Samantha Gamboa (Fr; Albuquerque, NM) received the start for the Cowgirls and turns to 0-2 on the season.
 
Nathalie Blattmann (Fr; Abbotsville, Canada) held the Eagles to zero runs and one hit through six innings as the Cowgirls jumped out to a 4-0 lead I game two. The Cowgirls capitalized on an error from Chadron State second baseman to score three unearned runs in the third inning before Ziegler added an insurance run in the fourth inning with a double to center field.  
 
The Eagles rallied two runs in the top of the seventh before Blattmann ended the game with a grounder hit to 
Tamia Yellowman (Fr; Phoenix, AZ) at shortstop and a force out at second base. Ziegler again led the Cowgirls with two hits and an RBI as 
Savannah Pineda Chavez (Fr; Montebello, CA), 
Brooke De La Garza (Fr; Silver City, NM), and 
Brooklynn DeLozier (Sr; Longmont, CO) each recorded a hit for the Cowgirls. Blattmann moves to 3-7 on the year after giving up two runs off three hits and adding four strikeouts to her resume.
 
The Cowgirls will continue the series with Chadron State with a double-header scheduled to start at 11 am tomorrow morning at the HU Softball Field. Live stream and live stats can be found
