Cowboys drop two heart-breakers on the road to #1 Colorado Mesa

Grand Junction, CO --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team traveled to Grand Junction over the weekend where they fell to #1 Colorado Mesa 5-4 on Sunday afternoon to lose the RMAC series 0-4.

The Cowboys left two runners on base after scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in game three, but failed to bring the tying run across the plate as the Mavericks went on to a 9-8 win.

The Cowboys kept the momentum rolling into Sundays nine-inning affair, scoring 4 runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. JT Mossberg held the Mavericks to one hit and a walk, going three up – three down in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings, before Harrison Rogers hit a solo home run over the left field fence, to make it 4-1 in the Cowboys favor.

Another solo home run for the Mavericks cut the lead to two runs before a CMU rally in the top of the eighth inning scored three runners for the Mavericks to give them an eventual 5-4 win.

Aiden McNichol led the way for the Cowboys with two hits and two RBI while Griffin Logan also added an RBI.

Mossberg pitched 7.1 innings giving up five runs off seven hits and three strikeouts on the day as Kalen Hammer stepped in to relieve him giving up one hit.

The Cowboys will have the weekend off with an RMAC bye weekend and will be back in action on May 7th to take on Adams State in Las Vegas, NM.

GO COWBOYS!!
