Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team comes back from a 3-0 deficit to take game one against the ThunderWolves 8-3 at Brandt Field on Friday afternoon.

The ThunderWolves scored an early three runs in the top of the second inning and held the Cowboys scoreless through six innings before the Cowboys exploded for 5 runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

Fabian Ferreira got things started for the Cowboys with a lead-off single through the right side and
Brandon Baier followed with a single of his own to put runners on first and third.
Kalen Hammer walked to load the bases as
Estevan De La O scored the Cowboys first run with a sacrifice fly to center field and make it 3-1 ThunderWolves.

Again, a walk loaded the bases as the Cowboys used an error from CSU Pueblo Shortstop Trey Vasquez to cut the lead to 3-2 before
Jesus Chavez smacked a double to left field to score
Gaylan Young,
Ashton Roy, and Baier to give the Cowboys a 5-3 lead after seven innings.

The Cowboys used two singles, a walk, a wild pitch, and another double from Chavez to extend their lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning.
J.T. Mossberg stepped in for the Cowboys with two outs in the top of the eighth and would go on to earn his first save of the year.

Chavez finished two for five on the day with two doubles and 4 RBI while Roy and Baier also added two hits apiece.

Gaylan Young received the start for the Cowboys after throwing five innings and giving up three runs and five hits.
Robbie Alarcon saw an inning on the mound giving up a hit with a strikeout as
John Slape (1-0) threw for 1.2 innings and gave up three hits with a strikeout. Mossberg received his first save of the year.

The Cowboys and the ThunderWolves will meet again tomorrow afternoon with a double-header slated for 12 pm at Brandt Field.
