LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team lost a double-digit lead in the second half and fell to MSU Denver 78-73 Saturday night at Wilson Complex.
The Cowboys (6-9, 1-8) led the contest 61-47 with 12:23 remaining in the contest after a
Marcus Brown 3-pointer. However, MSU Denver (13-4, 7-4) outscored NMHUÂ 21-4 over the next nine minutes to take a 68-64 lead with 3:34 remaining.
The score was tied 70-70 after a
Sammy Barnes-Thompkins bucket with 1:42 remaining, but MSU Denver answered with a dunk with 1:18 left and wouldn't trail the rest of the way.
Brown led NMHU with 19 points - going 3-for-3 from 3-point range. Barnes-Thompkins had 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals while
Desmond Carpenter had 13 points.
The Cowboys return to action 7 p.m. Tuesday at home against UCCS.
