RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team overcame a six-point halftime deficit to defeat South Dakota Mines 91-81 on the road Friday night at King Center.
The Cowboys (7-11, 2-10) outscored the Hardrockers (7-12, 5-8) 58-42 in the second half thanks to going 13-for-20 (65 percent) from 3-point range over the final 20 minutes (NMHU went 18-for-39 overall from 3-point range in the contest).
Sammy Barnes-Thompkins finished with 35 points, going 10-for-16 from 3-point range. It's the 10th time this season - and first time in the RMAC - that a player has hit double figures in 3-pointers made. He also added six rebounds and four assists.
Desmond Carpenter had 17 points and six rebounds,
Marcus Brown had 11 points and
Mario Archuleta had 10 points and four assists.
The Cowboys return to action next Friday at Fort Lewis.
