LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team never trailed against Chadron State as the Cowboys won their fifth game in a row 85-74 Friday night at Wilson Complex.
NMHU (11-11 overall, 6-10 RMAC) led by as much as 14 points in the first half and 17 points in the second half before holding for the 11-point win.
The Eagles did cut the lead to 72-69 with 3:05 remaining, but a 9-0 run - the last seven points scored by
Sammy Barnes-Thompkins - by the Cowboys helped them pull away.
Barnes-Thompkins led all scorers with 30 points - going 12-for-23 from the field.
Desmond Carpenter had 17 points, eight rebounds and two steals while
Andre Adams had a double-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds to go along with five assists and three blocks.
The Cowboys finished the night going 11-for-25 from 3-point range and overall shot 51.6 percent from the field.
NMHU returns to action 7 p.m. Saturday at home against Black Hills State.
