DENVER --- The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team used a huge second half to roll past MSU Denver 89-68 for the Cowboys' eighth win in a row Friday at Auraria Events Center.
The Cowboys (14-11 overall, 9-10 RMAC) outscored the Roadrunners (16-8, 10-8) 54-30 in the second half - shooting 59.5 percent over the final 20 minutes, including going 6-for-14 from 3-point range.
MSU Denver led 48-42 with 15:33 remaining in the second half before NMHUÂ before an 18-0 run capped by a
Marcus Brown 3-pointer at the 11:56 mark made it 60-48 Cowboys.
MSU Denver wouldn't get closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Sammy Barnes-Thompkins led NMHU with 23 points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists.
Desmond Carpenter had 22 points, seven steals, five rebounds and three assists,
Andre Adams had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds,
Tyler Rodgers had 14 points, five rebounds, three steals and went 4-for-5 from 3-point range and
Marcus Brown finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
The Cowboys return to action 7 p.m. Saturday at Colorado Christian.
