LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team opened RMAC play by splitting a doubleheader with Black Hills State on Saturday, winning the first game 7-2 and dropping the second 14-2.
In the first game, NMHU (3-7 overall, 1-1 RMAC) got another stellar outing from pitcher
Nathalie Blattmann as she didn't give up an earned run while allowing seven hits and striking out nine to move to 3-0 on the season.
The Cowgirls blasted three homers in the game, getting one apice from
Samantha Gamboa,
Heaven Medina and
Mckayla Encinias.
Camrynn Ziegler finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs while
Arianna Ramirez was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In the second game, BHSU (1-1, 1-1) score multiple runs in each inning to pick up the win. Ramirez got the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits in two innings of work. At the plate, NMHU had just three hits with
Dioni Lincoln leading the way going 1-for-2 with both RBI in the contest.
The teams meet again for a doubleheader in Las Vegas beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday.
