ALAMOSA, Colo. --- The New Mexico Highlands  softball team lost 11-4 and 6-5 to Adams State in a non-RMAC doubleheader Wednesday at ASU Softball Field.
In the first game, the Cowgirls (4-18 overall) took a 4-0 lead in the third inning thanks to an RBI single up the middle by 
Samantha Gamboa, an 
Arianna Ramirez two-run double to left center and Ramirez scoring on a wild pitch.
However, the Grizzlies (7-15) bounced back with a nine-run fourth inning to take a 9-4 lead before scoring two more in the sixth to make the final 11-4.
Camrynn Ziegler went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and a run for NMHU while 
Demi Uffelman went 2-for-3 with a double. 
Nathalie Blattmann got the loss, going 3.1 innings and giving up six runs on three hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
The Cowgirls in game two led 2-0 after three and took a 5-3 lead after the top of the seventh on a trio of RBI singles from 
Gloria DiLauro, Uffelman and 
Alice Midiri. However, a two-run homer by ASU forced estra innings and the Grizzlies won with a run in the eighth after NMHU was held scoreless in the top of the inning.
 
Midiri led NMHU at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run while DiLauro and 
Mickey Sibley had two hits apiece. Blattmann took the loss, going 0.2 innings and giving up a run on two hits. Ramirez got the start, going 6.2 innings and giving up five runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and five walks.
The Cowgirls return to action Saturday and start a four-game series with MSU Denver on the road.
