DENVER --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to MSU Denver, 10-1 and 6-1, Saturday at Assembly Athletic Complex.
In the first game, the Cowboys (6-18, 4-8) fell behind 4-0 before an
Estevan De La O homer in the fifth cut the deficit to three before the Roadrunners (15-11, 6-6) scored three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to make the final 10-1.
De La O had half of the Cowboys' hits, going 3-for-4.
Jadrian Martinez got the loss on the mound, going 4.0 innings and giving up six runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
In game two, the Cowboys trailed 2-0 heading into the third before a De La O RBI single cut the deficit to one. But MSU Denver scored a run in the second, two in the fifth and another in the sixth to make the final 6-1.
De La O finished 2-for-4 - accounting for two of NMHU's six hits.
Angel Castillo went the distance, but got the loss - going six innings and giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
The teams conclude the series noon Sunday in Denver.
